Higley Public Schools News

If you are new to our district and are ready to register your child here's what you need:

For students in K-8, please bring the completed Registration Packet and the following documentation to the home school for your child. You can find the home school using the K-8 boundaries map and/or the HUSD subdivision school assignments, both linked at the bottom of the page.. For students in 9-12, please bring the completed Registration Packet and the following documentation to Higley High School.

Registrations received prior to 2:00 p.m. can start school the next day; however, transportation will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. For registrations received after 2:00 p.m., there is a one-day processing period before the student can start school. Please bring the following information:

• Completed Registration Packet

• Birth Certificate

• Immunization Record

• Proof of Residency (contract on your house, rental or lease agreement, electric bill)

• Drivers License

• Child Custody Court Documentation (if applicable)

• Withdrawal Grades

• Withdrawal Slip from Previous School

• Unofficial Transcript

• Special Education Records (if applicable)

• Discipline and Attendance records

• Lunch Application (if applicable)

• Authorization and Release of Records

Education reporters will contribute each day to School Grounds, which features Valley, state and national K-12 education issues.
Readers can turn to School Grounds for all types of K-12 education news, including public school districts, charter schools, private schools, online schools and home-schooling. The site will also have pictures, links to interesting school items, uploaded documents, and other features.

Teen driving public service announcements sought

AAA has extended the deadline to submit entries for the AAA Teen Driving public service announcement (PSA) contest to Sept. 30. To submit a PSA entry visit www.aaateendriving.com.      
Teens interested in entering the contest should create a 60-second PSA designed to build awareness on the biggest issues facing teen drivers. Winners of the PSA contest will receive a grand prize of $2,000, second place will receive $700 and third place will receive $300 from AAA Insurance.

Help coming for autistic children
A lack of special-education teachers with expertise with autism is causing problems in schools across the country.
Arizona Republic reporter Lesley Wright writes in an article about how Arizona State University's West campus will offer the state's first  master's program to help teachers work with autistic children. Besides teachers, professors hope to help nurses, social workers, therapists, parents and anyone who is coping with autistic children.
